Volleyball closes out 2019 season at Missouri State

The Salukis will try to sweep the season series from the Bears for the first time since 1998.
The Southern Illinois University volleyball team will close out the 2019 season at Missouri State on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. The Salukis could still finish as high as tied for fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings but are eliminated from MVC Tournament contention because they do not hold the tiebreaker, which is record against teams that they would be tied with.
All-time vs. Missouri State
• Missouri State leads the all-time series with the Salukis, 56-21.Â
• Southern snapped a five-match losing streak to Missouri State with a 3-2 win on Oct. 21.
• 15 of Southern's 21 wins in the series have come on its home court.
• SIU's last win at Missouri State: Sept. 26, 2016.Â
• Last time the Salukis swept the season series: 1998.
Whole lot of DigsÂ
• SIU tallied 119 digs in its five-set win over Evansville on Saturday and five Salukis finished with double-digit digs, including four with 20-plus digs.Â
• Southern's 119 digs were its most in a match since 1990.Â
• It is the sixth time this season that the Salukis have tallied 90-plus digs in a match.
• SIU's six 90-plus dig outputs are as many as it had notched in the previous eight seasons combined.

New School Record
• The Salukis broke a 34-year old school record for most total digs in a single-season with 2,299 digs and counting.Â
• SIU leads the nation in total digs and ranks 15th nationally in digs per set (17.68/set).Â
Five-Setters
• The Salukis rallied from a 2-1 hole to defeat the Evansville Purple Aces in five sets on Nov. 16.
• It marked the 12th five-set match of the season for Southern, which broke the 1982 school record for most five-set matches played in a single-season.
• SIU also improved to 7-5 in five-set matches this season with the victory.
• The 12 five-setters are tied for the third-most nationally. Only Buffalo (14), and Houston (13) have played more.
• Of teams to have played in 10-plus five set matches, Southern is tied for fifth with seven five-set wins.Â
Triple-Dubs
• Rachel Maguire was an unstoppable force for the Salukis over the weekend, as she recorded back-to-back triple-doubles and upped her national-leading triple-double total to 13.Â
• The Bloomington, Ill. native tallied 11 kills, 18 assists, 12 digs, three blocks and an ace in four sets against Indiana State and followed with 15 kills, 29 assists, 15 digs, five blocks and an ace in SIU's five-set win over Evansville.Â
• Not only are Maguire's 13 triple-doubles the most in a single-season and career in program history, it is also the most in a single-season in both the MVC and NCAA over at least the last five seasons.
300/500/300
• Rachel Maguire is one kill shy of becoming the first player in program history with 300 kills/500 assists/300 digs in a single season.
2 w/ 300-plus kills - same season
• Savannah Sheridan put down her 300th kill of the season at Indiana State on Nov. 15 while Rachel Maguire is one shy of 300.
• With Maguire's next kill, it will mark the first time since 2015 that the Salukis have had two attackers with 300 kills in the same season.
First Time
• The Salukis have four players with 300-plus digs: Laura Rojas (547), Alayna Martin (374), Rachel Maguire (340) and Katy Kluge (324).Â
• It marks the first time in program history that Southern has had four players with 300-plus digs in the same season.
Most in a while
• Laura Rojas' 547 digs are the third-most in a single-season in program history and the most since Bailey Yeager's school record of 630 in 2012.Â
• It marks just the fifth time in school history that a Saluki has tallied 500-plus digs in a single-season.

Coming up Aces
• Southern finished with 11 aces in its Nov. 9 match against Loyola, which marked the third time this season they have recorded double-digit aces.Â
• SIU's three matches with 10-plus aces are its most in the rally-scoring, 25-point set era and the most in any season since 2007.Â
• The Salukis are 23-7 since 2002 in matches where they serve 10-plus aces.
• Six different Salukis served at least one ace against Loyola, led by Emma Baalman's career-high four aces.Â
• SIU's 173 aces this season are its most since the 2007 season.
• Katy Kluge's 39 aces are the most by a Saluki in the 25-point set, rally scoring era (since 2008).
• Rachel Maguire joined Kluge as Salukis to serve 30-plus aces in a single-season, as she became the ninth Saluki since 2008 to do so. Emma Baalman needs just one ace to join Kluge and Maguire.Â
• It marks the first time since 2013 that Southern has had multiple players serve 30-plus aces in a season.Â

Already seeing improvements
• The Salukis have nine more wins through 31 games than they had in the 2018 season.Â
• Southern's +9 win improvement ranks in the top-10 nationally of win differential. SIU is tied for 10th nationally in win differential and is the fourth-best win improvement in the nation amongst first-year coaching staffs.
* Southern's +9 win improvement is the fourth-best year-to-year turnaround in school history and the best since 2012.
• SIU's +9 win improvement is also the best in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and is tied for the 20th-best improvement in Valley history.Â
Good Distribution
• Southern currently has seven players with 100-plus kills on the season.
• Southern has only had three seasons dating back to 1980 (1985, 1997, 2016) in which seven or more players hit the century mark for kills in a single-season.
• The school record for most players with a 100-plus kills in a single-season is eight, set in 1997.Â
