
Women's Basketball travels to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan

It will be SIU's first game in Michigan since 2010.
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team travels to Ypsilanti, Mich. to take on Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 12 p.m. (ET). The Salukis, who haven't played in Michigan since 2010, are seeking their first win in the state since 1978.
All-Time vs. Eastern Michigan
• This marks just the second time that the Eagles and the Salukis have met and the first time since 1982.
• Southern and Eastern Michigan last played at the Illini Classic on Jan. 23, 1982- a 64-59 win for SIU.
• This is Southern's first game in Michigan since taking on Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Nov. 24, 2010.
• SIU's last win in Michigan: 63-62 win over Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. on March 9, 1978.
Last time they met
• The Salukis defeated the Eagles, 64-62 on Jan. 23, 1982 at the Illini Classic.
• Southern led 34-32 at the half and held on despite shooting just 35.1% from the field.
• Connie Price led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
All-time vs. the MAC
• Southern's record is 18-16 all-time when facing MAC programs. NIU left the MAC from 1986-97 and the two programs faced nine times during that period (3-6).
• Southern's last win over a MAC school came last season, when SIU defeated Northern Illinois to win the inaugural Compass Challenge.
• Prior to last season's win over NIU, SIU's last victory over a MAC school came on Dec. 10, 1988- a 47-32 win over Central Michigan in Carbondale.
Stein's record all-time vs. the MAC
• Stein is 9-2 in her career against MAC opponents but 0-1 against EMU.
New School Record
• With 21 local schools and 3,397 fans in attendance for SIU's game against Memphis, Southern broke the school record for fans at a women's basketball game.
• The previous school record was 3,367 fans when Cindy Stein's Missouri team came to the SIU Arena on Nov. 12, 2006.
Seeing an uptick
• The Salukis are averaging 80.8 points per game through the first four games of the 2019-20 season- which is second in the Missouri Valley Conference and ranks 31st nationally.
• SIU also is fourth in the MVC, and ranks 29th nationally, in field goal percentage (47.5%).
Mak attack
• Makenzie Silvey led the Salukis against Memphis on Wednesday- with 26 of her game-high 28 points coming in the second half, including 17 points the the fourth quarter.
• It marked the second time this season that Silvey has gone for 28 points- and the seventh time in her career she has poured in 20-plus points.
• The Glen Carbon, Ill. native is averaging 21.5 points per game- which ranks second in the Valley and 21st nationally.
• She is nine points shy of becoming the 34th Saluki to score 850-plus points in a career.
Double-double
• Abby Brockmeyer recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Memphis.
• In doing so, Brockmeyer became just the ninth Saluki with at least 15 career double-doubles and the first to reach the mark since Dyana Pierre.
Homecoming
• Kristen Nelson, who went to Harrison High School and is from Farmington Hills, Mich., will play her first collegiate game in her home state when the Salukis take on the Eagles.
• Nelson made her first start of the season against Memphis and is averaging 27.5 minutes per game. She also has 11 assists on the season to just two turnovers.
Top-25 Nationally
• Southern is averaging 109.1 points per 100 possessions- the 25th-best average in the nation.
• SIU is doing so thanks to a .93 points per play average- the 25th-best average in the nation.
One shy of Top-15
• Brittney Patrick has 273 career assists- which is the 15th-most in a career in program history. She is six assists shy of passing Erica Smith for 14th place.
• Patrick is also three steals shy of becoming the 30th player in school history to reach the century mark in career steals and would be just the 16th player with 250-plus assists and 100 steals.
