Salukis prep for three-game weekend at Sunshine Slam

The Southern Illinois men's basketball program has three games in three days this weekend at the Sunshine Slam tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. SIU faces UTSAÂ on Friday night (6:30 p.m. CT), Delaware on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. CT), and Oakland on Sunday at noon CT. All three games are available to stream on FloHoops, which requires a subscription.Â

- SIU limited Illinois Wesleyan to 30.1 percent shooting in the season-opening win over Illinois Wesleyan, the seventh-best field goal percentage defensive performance of the decade:
- Wright State - 11/27/10 (21.6%)
- Jackson State - 12/13/17 (25.4%)
- Loyola - 3/3/17 (27.3%)
- Northern Illinois - 12/22/10 (27.9%)
- San Diego - 11/27/13 (29.2%)
- Northern Illinois - 12/17/11 (29.2%)
- Illinois Wesleyan - 11/5/19 (30.1%)
- In its exhibition win, SIU held Minnesota State to 26.6 percent shooting and 41 total points. If the game had counted, it would have been the fewest points allowed by an SIU team since 2008 (39, Evansville). And SIU put up that performance against a high-scoring Minnesota State team that averaged 80 point per game last year and hadn't scored 41 or fewer since the 1980-81 season.Â
- Aaron Cook Jr. has 120 career steals, which leads all active players in the Missouri Valley Conference by 30.Â
