Jones is one of three from the Valley to be named a candidate.
Southern Illinois University pitcher Brianna Jones has been selected to a list of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Thursday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
In the classroom, Jones holds a 3.115 GPA as a dental hygiene major. A three-time All-MVC first team selection, Jones regularly makes time for community service projects such as helping at the local animal shelter and volunteering at the Carbondale Public Library among other activities.
This season in the circle, Jones is the only DI pitcher to have thrown two perfect games this season and sports a 9-5 record. She leads all active DI players in complete games pitched (80), innings pitched (724.3) and ranks top-10 among active DI players in victories (6th, .673), saves (6th, 11), and shutouts (6th, 24).
Jones is one of three players from the Valley to be selected as a candidate for the 2019 Senior CLASS award and is joined by Illinois State's Allison Spence and Drake's Nicole Newman.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 Women's College World Series.
