Men's Golf in 5th Place at Tiger Invitational

After two rounds at the Missouri Tiger Invitational on Monday, the SIU Men's Golf team climbed from 10th to fifth place, with hopes to advance in the final round on Tuesday.

"In the afternoon we had an absolutely phenomenal round by Hunter (York)," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "He easily led the way for us this afternoon and gave us the kick start we needed. We've been talking about patience all week. After not having the best morning round, that's exactly what he did. He was patient and it paid off."

York (-3) had a career best round of 65 in the second round of the tournament today. York's round of 65 ranks second in the Best 18-Hole Scores in the SIU Men's Golf record book. Senior Luke Gannon (-4) shot four below par and is tied for 18^th place. Freshman Matthis Besard (-2) is tied for 29^th place with a score of 142 for the two rounds. Senior Peyton Wilhoit (E) is tied for 40^th place and is even with par after todays round. Senior Frankie Thomas (+6) is tied for 63^rd place. After shooting 78 in the first round, Thomas was able to pull through for the second round with a score of 72.

"We're looking at a team that is very close. We're very close to putting it together. We just haven't done it quite yet, which is okay because we're learning and improving. I think tomorrow will be an important round for us because we have a short week. We leave on Thursday for another event and we really need to take some momentum from tomorrow into our next event," said Fetcho.

The final round will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9^th. Awards will follow. Live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.
