Peyton Wilhoit, Hunter York named to MVC Men's Golf Student-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Southern Illinois University men's golfers Peyton Wilhoit and Hunter York were selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced Friday.
Wilhoit, a senior, finished third at the MVC Championship in April, one stroke out of first place and set the school record for Season Stroke Average (71.76). A marketing major with a 3.39 GPA, he was named All-Conference all four years of his Saluki career. Wilhoit had four top-10 finishes this season and his career stroke average of 73.80 is third-best all-time at SIU.
York, also a senior, tied for 10th at the MVC Championship, firing a 68 in the final round, in which he birdied five of the last nine holes. He has a 73.36 Season Stroke Average, which ranks sixth-best all-time at SIU. A Rec Professionals major with a 3.51 GPA, he carded a 65 in the second round of the Missouri Tiger Invitational, the second best round in school history.
The Salukis are preparing for the program's second NCAA Regional appearance in the last four years. They will compete at the Louisville Regional May 13-15.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for its Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
