Branch advances on Day Two of West Prelims

The Southern Illinois University track and field team completed the second day of competition at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round on Friday in Sacramento, Calif.
Day two highlights included Bri'Anna Branch advancing to tomorrow's 200-meter dash final. Branch ran 23.45 to finish fourth in her heat and 22nd overall.Â
Earlier in the day, Branch recorded the best finish at a regional meet in her Saluki career, as she took 16th in the 100-meter dash quaterfinals with a time of 11.48. The Chicago, Ill. native missed out on 12th-place, and a spot at the national meet, by just .08 seconds.
Several Salukis competed Friday but did not advance. Theo Phipps ran a season-best 14.49 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish 39th. In the discus, Shauniece O'Neal was SIU's top finisher with a 19th-place finish at 170'-4" (51.93m) while Nikki Freeman threw 153'-6" (46.79m) to take 42nd. In her regional meet debut, Kayla Schiera finished 46th in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:44.67.
Adam Kessler gets Saturday's action underway in the shot put at 4 p.m. CT. Kayleigh Conlon will throw the shot at 7:15 p.m., followed by the women's 4x100 relay at 8 p.m. Willie Rodgers will then compete in the triple jump at 8:30 p.m. after which Branch will run in the 200-meter dash quarterfinal at 9:35 p.m.Â
