Women's Golf finishes season in 18th place at NCAA Regionals

The Southern Illinois University women's golf team finished the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, carding their lowest score of the NCAA Regional in Cle Elum, Washington in the final round. The No. 18 seed Salukis shot a three-day score of 952 (322-320-310) to finish last in the 18-team field. No. 1 ranked Southern California (-20) led each round to take first place, with No. 19 ranked Washington (-5) finishing runner-up.Â
In her career conclusion, graduate Jackie Biggs (+12) led Southern Illinois with a final score of 228 (77-75-76) to tie for 69th. Sophomore Emilyee McGiles finished in 85th with a score of 240 (+24). Junior Erica Kerr carded 81 in the final day to tie for 89th. Sophomore Moyea Russell recorded her lowest round of the tournament on Wednesday with a score of 78 to finish 32-over-par. Junior Lili Klekner-Alt (+33) also improved on the day, shooting 78 in the final round.
The six teams advancing to the NCAA Championship at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 17th include: USC, Washington, Northwestern, Arkansas, San Jose State and UCF. Kathleen Scavo (Oregon), Aneka Seumanutafa (Ohio State) and Ellie Slama (Oregon State) will advance as individuals.
The Cle Elum Regional concludes the season for Southern Illinois. In head coach Danielle Kaufman's first season, the Salukis finished in the the top-10 in 10 tournaments including two first-place finishes and eight top-five finishes. Coach Danielle Kaufman took home MVC Coach of the Year and junior Lili Klekner-Alt was named to the MVC All-Conference Team. Jackie Biggs was awarded the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award for her community service in the spring. Junior Erica Kerr was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, with Biggs and McGiles also earning Honorable Mentions for the efforts in the classroom.
