Lew Hartzog’s Celebration of Life Ceremony set for Oct. 19

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University track and field program has moved forward with plans to celebrate the life of longtime track and field head coach Lew Hartzog during the 2019 SIU homecoming festivities.
During his 27 years as a head track and field coach, Hartzog was twice named the National Coach of the Year (1982, 1984), coached 67 All-Americans, 12 national champions and at least a dozen Olympians. Hartzog's Celebration of Life ceremony is set for Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex on SIU's campus. A tailgate will follow from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with food and beverages provided.
Fans are then encouraged to attend SIU's football game on Saturday, Oct. 19 vs. Youngstown State at 2 p.m. All tickets for former student-athletes are free. Additional tickets for the football game for non student-athletes are $10.
