OPENING TIP
- SIU hosts Illinois State for SIU's first home conference game of the season. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 4.
- The Tucker Kuhnert Band will perform as part of SIU's concert series prior to the game. Doors will open at 1:30, and the band will play in the Charles Helleny Pavillion.Â
- The Mayor's Cup Challenge will be presented. The local community with the largest attendance at the game will be given a $500 community service project of their choice.Â
- For both games this week, tickets are available for as little as $10. Call 877-SALUKIS or visit SIUSalukis.com/tickets. These are the final two games for $10 tickets.
- The Salukis are 5-1 at Banterra Center this season. SIU has won four-straight home games and is searching for its first five-game home court winning streak since the 2017-18 season.Â
- SIU assistant coach Brendan Mullins was an assistant coach for the Redbirds for the last two seasons.
- SIU leads the MVC in scoring defense (61.3) and ranks 34th nationally in that category.Â
- SIU is allowing opponents to shoot just 41.9% from the field and 30.3% from the 3-point line. Both marks rank third in the MVC.Â
- Marcus Domask is one of only six freshmen in the nation averaging at least 14 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Domask leads all MVC freshmen in scoring, rebounding and assists. (Teammate Lance Jones ranks second in assists.)
- SIU star senior guard Aaron Cook Jr. has missed the last eight games with a broken hand suffered at Murray State (Nov. 19). He is day-to-day with the injury. The Salukis are 4-4 without Cook, with true freshman Lance Jones stepping into his starting role.Â
Dawg Bites: Since 2013-14, the home team in the SIU-Illinois State series is 11-1 (not counting Arch Madness games) ... SIU has won 24-straight games when it scores 75+, dating back to the 2016-17 season ... SIU is 6-0 when it has 15+ assists and 0-8 when it has 14 or fewer assists.
