CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU men's basketball team hosts North Dakota for games on back-to-back days December 17-18 at Banterra Center. Thursday's game will start at 1 p.m., and Friday's will tip off at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed nationally on ESPN3.Â

OPENING TIP
- SIU hosts North Dakota on December 17-18 at 1 p.m. (Thursday) and 3 p.m. (Friday). Both games will stream nationally on ESPN3.
- The back-to-back format will mimmick the conference formats used by both the Missouri Valley Conference (SIU) and Summit League (North Dakota).
- SIU jumped into CollegeInsider's Mid-Major Top-25 on Monday, coming in at No. 17.
- SIU is 3-0 for the first time since 2015-16, when the Salukis started 5-0.

- Via Sport-Reference: SIU true freshman Dalton Banks leads all freshmen nationally in effective field-goal percentage and true shooting percentage. He ranks in the top-25 nationally among all players in both categories.
- SIU is shooting 44.4% from the 3-point line, which ranks eighth-best nationally.
SERIES CHECK
- SIU leads the series with North Dakota, 3-1.
- SIU won in Carbondale in the 1955-56 season and then lost in overtime at North Dakota the following season.
- SIU and North Dakota played in back-to-back College Division Final Fours in 1965 and 1966, with SIU winning both.
- "College Division," as it was known then, was the "Division II" of its day.
- The 1965 SIU team was led by Walt Frazier, who would go on to be named one of the 50 greatest players of all-time. In the national title game, that 1965 SIU team lost to an Evansville team that was led by the late Jerry Sloan (a McLeansboro, Ill. native -- McLeansboro is 57 miles from Carbondale.)
- In both 1965 and 1966, the North Dakota teams that faced SIU were led by Phil Jackson, who would win 11 NBA championships as a head coach.
- SIU has not faced any current Summit League team since facing Oral Roberts in 1995.
