SIU hosts Division II Quincy in the home opener for the Salukis. SIU was originally scheduled to play Southern Miss on December 5, but the programs mutually agreed to move that game to 2021-22, and the Salukis added this game against Quincy. The game will be streamed nationally on ESPN3.

OPENING TIP
- SIU hosts Quincy for its home opener on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed nationally on ESPN3.
- SIU won its season opener 87-79 in a true road game at SEMO on Wednesday night. The Salukis ralled from an 11 point deficit with 5 minutes remaining to force overtime.
- Against SEMO, 74 of SIU's 87 points were scored by freshmen and sophomores.
- The win marked the fifth time that SIU has overcome a double-digit deficit to win since Bryan Mullins became the program's head coach.
- SIU graduate assistant Rob Dosier played college basketball at Quincy. Dosier started his college career at SEMO, which SIU played on Wednesday.
- SIU head coach Bryan Mullins tested positive for COVID-19 on November 27 and is in isolation for 10 days. Assistant coach Brendan Mullins is serving as the program's acting head coach for the game. Brendan is Bryan's older brother.
- SIU was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference's preseason poll of conference coaches, media and sports information directors in 2020-21.
YOUNG DAWGS GET IT DONE IN SEASON OPENER
- SIU won its season opener at SEMO 87-79 in overtime on Wednesday night.
- SIU faced an 11-point deficit with five minutes to play and rallied to force overtime. The Salukis outscored the Redhawks 16-8 in the extra period.
- In total, SIU outscored SEMO 32-13 over the game's final 10 minutes. (16-5 in final 5 minutes of regulation to force OT and 16-8 in OT).
- SIU had four players in double-figures: Marcus Domask (24), Ben Harvey (22), Dalton Banks (14), and Anthony D'Avanzo (13). Harvey, Banks and D'Avanzo were all making their SIU debuts.
- D'Avanzo scored all 13 of his points in the second half and overtime. He hit three clutch free throws in the game's final minute to force OT, including a 2-for-2 with 4 seconds remaining to tie the game.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN
- SIU returns two starters and five letterwinners from last year's 16-16 team. Ben Harvey (an Eastern Illinois transfer) also returns after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
- Eight newcomers join the roster this year: Four freshmen, two graduate transfers, one junior college transfer, and one Division II transfer. Two of the transfers are from the Division II ranks (Anthony D'Avanzo from Lewis and Steven Verplancken Jr. from Glenville State).
- J.D. Muila, who was rated the No. 24 juco player in the nation last year, will miss the season with a knee injury.
- Steven Verplancken Jr., who averaged 15 ppg at Division II Glenville State last season, was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA and will play this season.
