OPENING TIP
- The SIU men's basketball team visits Evansville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed nationally on ESPN+.Â
- SIU has won five-straight MVC games, the longest active winning streak in the MVC. During the streak, four of the five wins are over Drake (twice), UNI, and Loyola. Those three teams are a combined 1-4 against SIU and 19-6 against everyone else in the MVC.
- SIU is trying to win six-straight MVC games for the first time since 2007. SIU is also trying to be 8-3 in the MVC for the first time since 2007.Â
- SIU started the year 0-7 in true road games but has won each of its last two road games (at Illinois State and at Drake). The Salukis are trying to win a third-straight MVC road game for the first time since 2016.Â
- SIU ranks 13th nationally (of 353) in scoring defense, allowing just 60.8 points per game. SIU also ranks top-50 nationally in fewest fouls per game (14th) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (41st). KenPom ranks SIU No. 2 in the MVC in adjusted defensive efficiency, behind Loyola.
- SIU is coming off a 79-72 win at Drake, snapping Drake's 15-game home court winning streak. SIU's 79 points were the most SIU had scored this season. SIU freshman Marcus Domask scored 28 points in that win, the most by any MVC freshman in a conference game since Milton Doyle (Loyola) scored 28 vs. UNI in 2014.Â
- Eric McGill was named the MVC Player of the Week on Monday. McGill averaged 23 points (on 67% shooting), 5.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 steals in wins over Loyola and Drake. McGill scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting in SIU's 68-63 win over Loyola.
