All-Time vs. the Ramblers
• The Salukis and the Ramblers will meet for the 20th time in a series that dates back to 1982.
* Southern held Loyola to season-lows in field goal percentage and points in its 58-41 win over the Ramblers a year ago.Â
* The Salukis lead the all-time series, 11-8.
* SIU has won three of the last four meetings, and seven of the last nine meetings between the two schools dating back to 2016.
* Loyola is 5-4 against SIU on its home floor. Southern's last win in Gentile Arena was on Feb. 22, 2019- a 64-41 win.
* The Salukis won the first-ever meeting between the two schools, a 75-60 win at Loyola on Dec. 18, 1982.
Welcome to the Club
•  Abby Brockmeyer scored her 1,000 career point on Jan. 9 against Bradley to become just the 28th Saluki in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.Â
• The senior from Raymond, Ill. is the sixth active Missouri Valley Conference player to reach the mark and is joined by her teammate Makenzie Silvey.Â
• The Salukis are one of 30 teams nationally, and one of only two in the Missouri Valley Conference, to have multiple active players reach the scoring milestone.Â
Starting a New One
• Abby Brockmeyer became just the 11th player to snag 700-plus career rebounds with her 12 boards against SEMO on Dec. 13. In SIU's win over Austin Peay on Dec. 12, she became just the fifth player in program history to record triple-digit career blocks.
• The Raymond, Ill. native could also become the first player in program history to amass 1,000 career points/700 rebounds/100 steals/100 blocks and 100 assists. She is just four steals shy of reaching that milestone.
Answering the Call
• Payton McCallister leads the Salukis, and ranks 11th in the MVC, in minutes played per game (30.9).Â
• The junior guard has played 30-plus minutes in five of the 10 games she has played in this season, including 34-plus minutes in three-straight games.
• McCallister has also become an integral part of Southern's offense- she's attempted 10-plus shots in five-straight games, and in six of her last seven.Â
• Prior to this season, McCallister had attempted 10 or more shots in just three career games and had played 30-plus minutes twice.
• McCallister has scored in double figures in five of SIU's 10 games this season, which included a streak of four-straight games in double figures. She had reached double-digits just eight times in 59 games prior to this season.
• McCallister currently ranks in the top-15 in the MVC in assists (11th; 2.9), steals (10th; 1.6), three-pointers made (4th; 1.9), and minutes played (11th; 30.9).
Getting a chance to shine
• Much like most of college basketball, Southern's 2020-21 schedule has undergone several iterations.
• Southern has had six games canceled, four games rescheduled and added three games against opponents who were not originally on its 2020-21 schedule.
• SIU has had several players thrust into new roles for games when other players are in quarantine as nine different Salukis have started at least one game this season.
Stretching the floor
• Rachel Pudlowski has taken on a larger role this season and is averaging more than three times the amount of minutes per game this season (17.0/game) as she did a year ago (5.8/game).
• The senior from O'Fallon, Mo. has played at least 15 minutes in five of the seven games she's played in this season and has scored in double figures twice- which is once more than she had in her previous three seasons combined.
• Pudlowski has played more down low at the four this season and has found her niche offensively playing closer to the basket. She is currently shooting 50-percent (16-32) from the floor, which is almost 20-percent higher (34-percent) then what her career field goal percentage was entering the 2020-21 season. She has also set or tied career-bests in eight of the 14 categories that are tracked this season.
Guarding the Rock
• The Salukis turned the ball over a season-low six times in the win over Kansas City on Dec. 17. It was the fewest turnovers for Southern since its 66-41 win over Evansville on March 3, 2018 in which SIU turned the ball over just four times.
• Southern also turned the ball over just nine times against Bradley on Jan. 9 - which marked the third time already this season that SIU has turned the ball over less than 10 times.Â
• SIU's 13.0 turnovers per game ranks second in the Valley and 28th nationally.
Double-Doubles
• Abby Brockmeyer notched her 21st career double-double at No. 25 Missouri State on Jan. 27 when she finished with 13 points and 11 boards.
• Brockmeyer's 21 career double-doubles are the most among active players in the Missouri Valley Conference and are the 32nd-most among active DI players nationally.
• The Salukis are 13-8 all-time when Brockmeyer records a double-double.
Climbing the List
• Makenzie Silvey passed Connie Price/Molly McDowell for 11th on SIUs all-time scoring list. She is seven points shy of cracking the top-10 and passing her former teammate, Kylie Giebelhausen.
• Last season, Nicole Martin became the fifth Saluki during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Martin joined Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (10th; 1,298) in that club.
9. D.D. Plab - 1,380
10. Kylie Giebelhausen - 1,298
11. Makenzie Silvey - 1,292
