CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Reaching the back of the net for the first time since September 25 at Illinois State, junior midfielder Christy Murauskis drew in the lone SIU goal in the Salukis' 1-3 fall to Northern Iowa Saturday afternoon.
With junior goaltender Maddy Alaluf in net in Maroon, the Newport Beach, California native notched three saves with intense defensive blocking from juniors Georgina Franco and Sam DeJulio to the Panthers 14 shots. UNI opened on the board with an unassisted goal from attack Ashley Harrington in the 8th minute. Just before halftime, Northern Iowa rallied to bring the score 2-0, with a solo shot off the foot of defender Sandra Thiman.
The Salukis showcased their drive in the second half of play, drawing in six offensive corner kicks to UNI's two, with Murauskis reaching the top right corner behind keeper Chloe Russo in the 65th minute to bring the Dawgs back 1-2. The Panther's Thiman later earned her second set of points of the afternoon, with a shot passed from Harrington with 81:00 on the clock to solidify the game.
Along with Murauskis' first goal of the season, junior forward Emma Spotak and freshman midfielder Ashley Scesniak tallied in a shot and a shot-on-goal for the Maroon and White.
The Salukis play their final match of their 2021 season, closing against Indiana State at home on Thursday, October 28 at 4pm.
