FCS Playoffs begin on Saturday

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The 24-team FCS Playoffs begins on Saturday, and Southern Illinois travels to South Dakota for an intra-conference battle that will be televised on ESPN+ at 5 p.m.
The No. 21-ranked Salukis (7-4) are making the 10th playoff appearance in school history and their second-straight appearance, after advancing to the round of eight last spring by beating Weber State.
This will be the sixth NCAA playoff appearance for the No. 17-ranked Coyotes (7-4) and just the second since moving up from Division II to the FCS level. In 2017, USD beat Nicholls in the first round of the FCS Playoffs.
The two Missouri Valley Football Conference teams did not play each other this season, thus permitting a first-round pairing in the post-season. They last met in 2019, when Southern cruised to a 48-28 win at the DakotaDome, behind a four-touchdown performance by Javon Williams Jr. and a team rushing total of 334 yards.
The winner advances to play at North Dakota State on Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m.
