
Game Notes: Women's Basketball at Drake

The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team travels to Des Moines, Iowa for a Missouri Valley Conference road swing against the Drake Bulldogs. The Salukis and the Bulldogs will tip-off on both Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. SIU is coming off a win over Illinois State while Drake has won three-straight heading into Thursday's showdown. Both contests can be heard locally on Magic 95.1 FM and can be streamed on ESPN+.
All-Time Series vs. Drake
• The Salukis and the Bulldogs will meet for the 91st and 92nd times on Thursday and Friday.
• Drake leads the all-time series 62-28.Â
• The Bulldogs have won 10-straight in the series and 14 of the last 16.Â
• The Bulldogs hold a 35-7 record over the Salukis on their home floor.
• SIU's 77-67 win over Drake at the Knapp Center on Jan. 1, 2016 was its first win in Des Moines, Iowa since the 2006-07 season.Â
•Drake has won 22 of the last 24 meetings against the Salukis on their home court.
Last time out:
• The Salukis held off the Illinois State Redbirds for a 43-41 win on Feb. 6.Â
• The Redbirds, who came into the weekend ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 71.8 points per game scoring average, were held to a season-low 41 points.Â
• It was not only a season-low scoring output for Illinois State, but it was their fewest points scored in a game since Nov. 10, 2019.Â
• Southern also held Illinois State without a three-pointer, which was the first time in almost a year (2/21/20) that SIU has held its opponent with a trey. It was one of two times this season that a Valley school has held an opponent without a three (Valparaiso held Purdue without one on Dec. 6, 2020).
• SIU's victory snapped its six-game losing streak and gave the Salukis their first win over the Redbirds since 2017.
Comeback win
• The Salukis erased a 15-point second quarter deficit to stun the Illinois State Redbirds, 43-41 on Feb. 6, 2021 inside Banterra Center.
• It was Southern's largest deficit to overcome since it mounted a 16-point third quarter comeback to defeat the UMKC Kangaroos, 77-69 on Dec. 19, 2016 inside the Swinney Recreation Center.
Perfect from the stripe
• SIU was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line against Illinois State on Feb. 5.
• It marked the first time since Jan. 15, 2017(vs. Missouri State) that Southern has posted a perfect free throw percentage.Â
Approaching Milestones
• Makenzie Silvey sits at 197 career three-pointers, which are the fourth-most in school history.
• When she makes three more three-pointers, she will join Rishonda Napier, Kylie Giebelhausen and Teri Oliver as the only Salukis to make 200-plus treys.
• Silvey is also two steals shy of passing Nikki Gilmore for 10th on SIU's all-time steals list.

On a tear
• Abby Brockmeyer has been on a tear as of late, as she has two double-doubles in her last three games and is averaging 18.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game over that span.
• Brockmeyer scored a career-high 28 points on 60-percent (12-of-20) shooting against Loyola on Jan. 30. The Raymond, Ill. native has scored in double figures in four-straight games, and in eight of the 10 games she has played in this season.
• The senior forward would lead the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounds per game (9.3) if she meant the minimum requirement for games played.
Scoring Defense
• The Salukis rank third in the league in scoring defense, as they are giving up just 59.5 points per game.
• Southern has finished in the top-four in the league in the category in each of the last three seasons, which included finishing second at 63.3 points per game during the 2019-20 season.

• Southern held Illinois State to 98 total points during the 2020-21 season series.
• It was the fewest points allowed in a conference series since 2018, when the Salukis surrendered just 88 points in two games to the Redbirds.
• In the 10 meetings between the Redbirds and the Salukis since Kristen Gillespie took over as head coach of Illinois State, all 10 games have been decided by 10 points or fewer.
Home Sweet Home
• Southern is 6-2 this season on its home court and 0-6 everywhere else.
• The Salukis have won at least eight home games in six-straight seasons, with a Stein-era high of 10 during the 2015-16 season.
• Southern has posted six-straight seasons with winning records on its home floor, which includes a 9-5 record at Banterra Center a year ago.
