All-Time vs. Missouri State
• The Salukis and the Lady Bears meet for the 87th time in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season.
• Southern trails the all-time series, 30-56.Â
• SIU defeated No. 17/19 Missouri State, 70-68 on Jan. 17, 2020 to break a three-game losing streak to the Lady Bears.
• SIU's last six wins over the Lady Bears have come at home, as Southern has never won at the JQH Arena, which opened in 2008.
Ranked opponent
• Southern defeated No. 17/19 Missouri State on Jan. 17, 2020 for the program's first victory over a ranked opponent since 1991.Â
• The Lady Bears come into Wednesday's contest once again ranked in the Top-25 (No. 23).Â
• This marks the second time this season, and 49th time since 1981 that the Salukis have taken on a team ranked in the Top-25.Â
• SIU is 8-40 all-time against foes ranked in the Top-25.Â
• This is the eighth time that the Salukis have tangled with a ranked foe in the Cindy Stein-era and the fifth time it has occurred in conference play.
Last time out
• The Salukis swept the Indiana State Sycamores over the weekend and have now won eight-straight games at the Hulman Center.Â
• Southern did so in stellar fashion as it shot over 50-percent from the field in each of its two wins.Â
• It marked the first time since Jan. 4-6, 2007 that SIU has made over half of its shots in back-to-back games.Â
• Southern also set season-bests in three-pointers made (10), three-point field goal percentage (52.6%), assists (24) and points (84) during its two wins.
20 assists in back-to-back games
• Southern tallied 24 assists in their opening win over Indiana State and followed with 22 assists the following night to complete the season sweep.
• It marked the first time SIU has dished out 20-plus assists in back-to-back games since Dec. 19-20, 2019.
• Makenzie Silvey and Payton McCaliister each dished out six assists in the win over Indiana State on Feb. 19- which marked the first time two Salukis dished out six assists in the same game since Brittney Patrick and Kristen Nelson did so against Murray State on Dec. 15, 2019.
10-plus threes
• Southern made 10 three-pointers in each of its wins over Indiana State last weekend.
• SIU was 10-of-24 in its 84-69 win on Feb. 19 and went 10-for-19 in its 76-52 win on Feb. 20.
• It marked the first time since 2017 that the Salukis have made double-digit threes in back-to-back games.
Makenzie Silvey named MVC Player of the Week
• Silvey averaged a robust 23.5 points on 55.6-percent (20-of-36) shooting, which including 50-percent (7-of-14) from behind the arc. The two-time All-MVC selection also added 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 32.1 minutes per game.
• Silvey went for a game-high 26 points on an efficient 11-of-18 from the field and added six boards, six assists and steal in 29 minutes of work in SIU's 84-69 win on Friday.Â
• She followed with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting in Southern's 76-52 win on Saturday.
• The MVC Player of the Week honor is the first of Silvey's storied career and the second for SIU this season. Adrianna Katcher was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 4.Â
Stretching the floor
• Rachel Pudlowski has taken on a larger role this season and has played more minutes this season in 15 games than she did in 25 games a year ago.
• Pudlowski has played more down low at the four this season and has found her niche offensively playing closer to the basket. She is currently shooting 49-percent from the floor, which is more than 15-percent higher (34-percent) then her career field goal percentage was prior to the 2020-21 season.
• Pudlowski set or tied eight career-bests in last weekend's sweep of Indiana State.Â
• Pudlowski tied her career-best with seven boards against the Sycamores in the Feb. 19 win, and followed with a career-high 13 points in Southern's win on Feb. 20.Â
• It marked the fifth time this season that the O'Fallon, Mo. native has scored in double figures. She did so just once in her previous three seasons.
• She has already set personal-bests in field goals in a season (39), blocks (5), steals (15) and points (105).
Climbing the List
• Makenzie Silvey became the ninth player in Saluki history to score 1,400-plus career points, and in doing so, passed her former teammate, Nicole Martin for eighth on SIU's all-time list.
• She's 14 points shy of Dyana Pierre for seventh on Southern's all-time list.
• She is four assists shy of becoming the 21st player in program history with 250 career assists.
• Silvey's back-to-back 20-point games marks the second-time in her career that she has done that. She's one of just 30 players in program history to score 20-plus points in consecutive games.
• Last season, Nicole Martin became the fifth Saluki during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Martin joined Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (10th; 1,298) in that club.
