
Game Notes: Women's Basketball vs. Valparaiso

CARBONDALE, Ill. --Â The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team continues its five-game homestand when Valparaiso comes to Carbondale for a two-game set beginning Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. Sunday's game also tips at 4 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
All-Time vs. Valpo
• The Salukis and Valparaiso will meet for the seventh and eighth time this weekend.Â
• The Salukis are 5-1 all-time against the Brown and Gold.Â
• Four of SIU's five wins all-time have been by 11 or more points.Â
* Valpo defeated SIU, 69-58 last season to end Southern's five-game win streak in the series.
Last time they met
• The Salukis fell to Valparaiso, 69-58, in its regular season finale on March 7, 2020.
• In a game that featured seven ties and 13 lead changes, Valparaiso used an 11-2 fourth quarter run to build a lead it never relinquished.Â
• SIU was led in scoring by Abby Brockmeyer, who notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.Â
• Valpo was on fire from behind the arc, as they shot 50-percent (8-of-16) from downtown including 5-of-8 in the second half. Southern, meanwhile, made just 1-of-11 from three-point range during the final 20 minutes of play.
Moving on up
• Makenzie Silvey moved up to seventh on SIU's all-time scoring list with her 14 points against Missouri State on Feb. 24.
• In doing so, Silvey passed Dyana Pierre for seventh.Â
• She is 50 points shy of passing Petra Jackson for sixth.
• She also became the 21st player in program history with 250 career assists.
• Silvey's back-to-back 20-point games marks the second-time in her career that she has done that. She's one of just 30 players in program history to score 20-plus points in consecutive games.
• Silvey became the sixth Salukis during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Silvey joined Nicole Martin (9th; 1,404), Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (10th; 1,298) in that club.

Win over Indiana State:
• The Salukis swept the Indiana State Sycamores over the weekend and have now won eight-straight games at the Hulman Center.Â
• Southern did so in stellar fashion as it shot over 50-percent from the field in each of its two wins.Â
• It marked the first time since Jan. 4-6, 2007 that SIU has made over half of its shots in back-to-back games.Â
• Southern also set season-bests in three-pointers made (10), three-point field goal percentage (52.6%), assists (24) and points (84) during its two wins.
20 assists in back-to-back games
• Southern tallied 24 assists in their opening win over Indiana State and followed with 22 assists the following night to complete the season sweep.
• It marked the first time SIU has dished out 20-plus assists in back-to-back games since Dec. 19-20, 2019.
• Makenzie Silvey and Payton McCaliister each dished out six assists in the win over Indiana State on Feb. 19- which marked the first time two Salukis dished out six assists in the same game since Brittney Patrick and Kristen Nelson did so against Murray State on Dec. 15, 2019.
10-plus threes
• Southern made 10 three-pointers in each of its wins over Indiana State last weekend.
• SIU was 10-of-24 in its 84-69 win on Feb. 19 and went 10-for-19 in its 76-52 win on Feb. 20.
• It marked the first time since 2017 that the Salukis have made double-digit threes in back-to-back games.
