Baseball hosts UT Martin for 3-game series

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU baseball team (8-0) hosts UT Martin (3-3) for a three-game series this weekend at Itchy Jones Stadium. Game times are 3 p.m., 2 p.m., and 1 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively. SIU is trying to improve on an 8-0 start, the second-best start in program history (1967, 11-0). SIU has won 13-straight games dating back to last season, which is the second-longest active winning streak in the nation (Navy, 18 games).Â

Attendance Policy » Due to COVID-19 health protocols, attendance at Itchy Jones Stadium will be limited to immediate family of student-athletes and a limited number of SIU students, with a capacity of 100 in the seating bowl. The Hill will be closed. Face coverings are required in the facility except when eating or drinking, and fans must observe social distancing outside of immediate family members. If health protocols change during the season, these Itchy Jones Stadium attendance policies will be reevaluated.

- SIU baseball (8-0) and SIU softball (9-0) are both undefeated. Saluki Athletics is one of just three athletics programs in the nation that is undefeated in both baseball and softball. Kentucky (14-0 / 5-0) and Lehigh (2-0 / 2-0) are the others.
- SIU baseball has won 13-straight games dating back to last season. Saluki Softball has won 18-straight games, dating back to last season. Both streaks are the second-longest active winning streaks in the nation. (Navy baseball has won 18-straight games. Arizona softball has won 22-straight games.)
- UT Martin comes to Carbondale with three-straight quality wins. The Skyhawks earned an impressive win over a ranked SEC team, taking down #22 Alabama 9-4 after trailing 3-0 early, which remains Alabama's only loss of the season (8-1). UT Martin followed that up with a doubleheader sweep at Akransas State, 21-5 and 8-5. The Skyhawks set a program record with an 11-run ninth inning in the first game of that doubleheader.Â
