PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley starter Brooks Gosswein pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball to lead the Braves to a 6-0 win over SIU on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. Bradley won the four-game series, 3-1.Â
Brad Hudson beat out a one-out infield single in the fifth inning for SIU's only hit against Gosswein. J.T. Weber added a two-out single in the ninth inning against Bradley closer Theron Denlinger. Bradley pitching had SIU's number throughout the series. After SIU scored five runs in the first three innings of the series, the Salukis scored just three runs on 14 hits over the final 31 innings. SIU's two lowest-scoring games of the year came in this series: a 2-1 loss on Saturday and today's 6-0 loss.Â
While SIU's offense struggled, SIU's pitching was solid throughout the series. Today's starter, Ben Chapman, pitched better than his final line indicated. He allowed just three earned runs his first seven innings and pitched into the eighth, but the Braves tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth inning to set the final score at 6-0.Â
SIU fell to 25-9 overall and 5-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Bradley improved to 12-14, 6-5.Â
UP NEXT: SIU continues its eight-game road trip with a four-game series at Valparaiso next weekend.Â
