Men's Golf Finishes Third At Murray State Invitational

DICKSON, Tenn. – Following its third round score of 285, the Southern Illinois University men's golf program finished in third place at 10-under par at the Murray State Invitational on Tuesday. Belmont placed first after finishing the tournament 20-under par.
As a team, the Salukis finished the tournament with a score of 854, matching the eighth-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Junior Tom Cleaton finished the tournament at six-under par (71-69-70), tying him for fourth and earning him All-Tournament honors. The third-year golfer out of England turned in a second round score of 69, matching a career-best to secure his top-four placement. His final score of 210 is the best 54-hole score of his career, while also tying him for the seventh-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Fellow junior Matthis Besard finished the tournament in a tie for 12th at a total score of 215 (71-71-73), while freshman Justin Wingerter tied 14th at a score of 216 (72-71-73), his best 54-hole performance to date.
Birgir Magnusson finished one stroke behind Wingerter (75-73-69) to tie 18th, while Josh Mackin closed out the day tied for 22nd at a total score of 218 (75-69-74).
Competing as unattached individuals, Markus Wilhelmsen finished in a tie for 31st with a total score of 222 (78-71-73), while Riley Klingelberg tied 51st at 226 (75-79-72).
As a team, the Salukis shot three-under par in round three to secure third place. Belmont finished the day six-under par to edge out UT-Martin by three strokes. Austin Peay finished three strokes behind SIU at seven-under par for the tournament, while Evansville placed fifth at 11-over par.
The Salukis will return to action April 9-11 when they compete in the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational.
