The Southern Illinois volleyball swept Murray State on Saturday night (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) for its fourth-straight victory. It's the team's longest win streak since the 2016 season.
The combination of the Salukis offensive efficiency and season-high 12 aces made the difference for SIU Saturday night. Southern hit at a .333 rate, its fifth-highest on the season, and were led by Nataly Garcia (13) and Annabelle Sulish (12) in kills. Sulish's 12 kills mark a new-career high for the freshman who also recorded two aces on the night.Â
The Salukis were able to go on an eight-point run and jump out to a 22-10 led in the second set with Anna Jaworski at the service line. Apart of that eight-point run was three consecutive aces from Jaworski, who finished the match with a career-high five aces. Jaworski currently leads the Salukis with 28 aces on the season, third-most in the Valley. The sophomore setter also averaged 12.67 assists per set, totaling 38 on the night.Â
Defensively, Claudia Bobb paced the Salukis with 13 digs (4.33 per/set) to go along with her career-high three aces. Tatum Tornatta (3), Imani Hartfield (2), and Brinley Burdette (2) all recorded multiple blocks on the Salukis way to eight total in the sweep.Â
With the win, Southern moves to 13-7 (6-2 MVC) on the year and currently sits in the third place in the Valley. The Salukis look to continue their streak with another home match Monday night as Missouri State visits for a 6 p.m. start.Â
