CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois basketball returns to Banterra Center on Thursday evening to faceoff with OVC member Tennessee State in the opening game of the SoCal Challenge. Tip is set for 7 p.m. CT.

THE MATCHUP
• It will be the 22nd time that the two programs have met and the 11th time in Carbondale. The Salukis own a 14-7 advantage in the series with the last meeting coming during the 2014 season when SIU won on the road 84-67 behind a 32-point performance from Anthony Beane. The Salukis are 9-1 all-time against the Tigers in Carbondale.
• Tennessee State comes into town winners of all three games this season after being picked to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference in the preseason poll. The last time TSU ranked in the upper echelon of the conference in the preseason was 2012-13 when they were voted second in the then-East division. Graduate transfer Jr. Clay can be the first-ever OVC player to receive All-OVC honors five times. The Tennessee Tech transfer is already one of the most decorated players in OVC history.

• Southern Illinois rallied to defeat Oklahoma State to earn the program's first true road win over a Power opponent since 2000 when SIU beat Colorado in the NIT. Southern has a Power Conference win in the last two seasons now, after defeating Colorado during the Paradise Jam in 2021-22.

DAWGS USE DEFENSE TO PULL UPSET
• Southern held Oklahoma State to just 34.5 percent shooting in the second half en route to a 12-point comeback on the road to pull off the upset. SIU held the Cowboys without a field goal for over four minutes until the end of regulation, including three steals in that time. The Dawgs are holding opponents to .260 (13-for-50) shooting from behind the arc, allowing just 13 3-pointers this season.

DUO CONTINUES TO CLIMB THE CHARTS
• Marcus Domask and Lance Jones continue to climb their way up the SIU all-time scoring list. Domask dropped in 16 points at USI to push his career total points to 1,108 and 34th place while Jones added 13 points to move into sole possession of 35th place with 1,105 career points.
