
Salukis look to snap three-game skid against Memphis

The Southern Illinois Women's Basketball team will look to snap its three-game losing streak to start the season when it welcomes Memphis into the Banterra Center on Tuesday night.Â
The Salukis and Tigers tip at 6 p.m. as the Salukis are coming off of a short break after falling to Northwestern on Saturday in Evanston.Â
Southern fell 84-69 to the Wildcats but junior center Promise Taylor was a bright spot in the paint for the Salukis.Â
Taylor finished with a Saluki-high 20 points to go with five rebounds in the loss. She went 7-of-11 from the field and was 6-of-7 for the line. She added also a pair of steals and a block.
For the second-straight game, Southern outrebounded its opponent as they edged Northwestern 43-35 on the boards.
Junior Ashley Jones also finished in double digits with 14 points, including two 3-pointers as she went 4-of-4 from the line.Â
On the season, sophomore Tyranny Brown (10.3 ppg) and Taylor (10.3 ppg) are averaging double figures for the Salukis while Laniah Randle (6 ppg, 6.7 rpg) leads the Dawgs in rebounds.Â
Memphis comes into the matchup at 3-1 on the year with its lone loss to Columbia but that was in the opener as the Tigers are on a three-game winning streak, beating its last three opponents by at least 25 points and holding them to below 55 points.
In its previous win against SIUE, Memphis had 58 rebounds with 26 coming on the offensive end. The Tigers are currently tied for 18th in the country in rebounds per game with 47.5.
Madison Gruggs (17 ppg) and Jamirah Shutes (15.5 ppg) led the Tigers in scoring as Emani Jefferson (6 rpg) leads the Tigers on the boards.Â
Memphis is averaging 85 ppg this season, which is tied for 23rd in the country.Â
Katrina Merriweather leads the Tigers as shes in her second season at the helm of Memphis. Merriweather has a record of 19-13 at Memphis and an overall record of 132-60 in seven seasons.Â
