
Nic Baker, Jacob Garrett named CSC Academic All-District

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois quarterback Nic Baker and fullback/tight end Jacob Garrett were named to the 2022 Academic All-District® Football Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.
A senior academically, Baker carries a 3.53 cumulative GPA and majors in finance. This season, he started all 11 games for the Salukis and was a three-time MVFC Player of the Week (at Northwestern, Western Illinois, Northern Iowa). He Led the league in completions (238), and was second in passing yards (2,751) and TD passes (20). Baker passed for a school-record 485 yards versus UNI, and set a school completion percentage record versus Western Illinois (25-of-28). He was the only FCS quarterback to lead his team to a Power 5 win this season, beating Northwestern.
Garrett has a 3.99 GPA as a graduate student pursuing an MBA. As a team captain this season, he started all 11 games and ranked 4th on the team in catches (32) and second in TD catches (6). In the historic win at Northwestern, he caught five passes for 78 yards, including two TDs. Garrett caught at least one pass in every game.
College Sports Communicators recognizes the nation's top student- athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
