The Southern Illinois volleyball team took down the Indiana State Sycamores in four-sets (25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23) Friday night. The Salukis move to 16-10 (9-5 MVC) with just four matches left in the regular season.Â
Southern hit .267 on the night with 61 kills compared to the Sycamores 46 kills while hitting .172. Junior outside hitter Tatum Tornatta led SIU with 18 kills while hitting .535, her highest hitting percentage in Valley play.Â
SIU's offense continued to be evenly distributed as four Salukis tallied eight or more kills for the sixth straight match. Freshman Annabelle Sulish finished with 16 for her seventh straight match with double-digit kills dating back to the Salukis sweep over Murray State. Just behind Sulish was Nataly Garcia with 14 and Imani Hartfield with nine kills of her own.Â
Setter Anna Jaworski dished out 50 assists to go along with two aces. Jaworski is currently first in the Valley with 11.51 assists and fourth with .36 aces per set.Â
Despite several lead changes and a fairly close match throughout, the Salukis were able to come up with key runs down the stretch. During the second set however, Indiana State was able to put together a four point run of its own to come back from a 22-24 deficit and steal the second set. The Salukis were able to bounce back quickly and take the final two sets when once again being put in a very similar situation as the second set.Â
Southern Illinois returns to Davies Gym Saturday, November 5 for Senior Night against Evansville. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
