Saluki Baseball announces schedule adjustments to weekend series against Central Arkansas

Southern will now host UCA for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
The Southern Illinois University baseball team has announced that its three-game series against Central Arkansas, originally scheduled to be played Friday through Sunday at Bears Stadium in Conway, Ark., will now be played from Saturday through Monday at Itchy Jones Stadium.

Notes
• Central Arkansas and SIU met in a three-game series in Carbondale in 2015. The Bears swept the series.
• SIU is coming off its first no-hit pitching performance since 1979. Four Saluki pitchers combined to no-hit Austin Peay on Tuesday in a 10-0 SIU win. SP Ben Riffe (6 IP) combined with relievers Tanner Lewis, Jordan Gould and Kaden Peterson-one inning apiece-combined to hold the Governors hitless. The Govs stranded 9 baserunners and SIU committed three errors.
• J.T. Weber, Cody Cleveland and Darren Taylor homered for SIU v. APSU. SIU has five home runs in four games this season. Cleveland's homer was also the team's first grand slam home run in 2022 and its first since April 2021.
• After being shutout in the season opener at Louisiana-Monroe, SIU scored 31 runs total in its next three games.
• SIU, which finished one or two in every key MVC offensive stat category in 2021, is averaging nearly 8 runs and over one home run per game in 2022.
• Newcomer SS Kaeber Rog is off to an 8 for 16 start. He's driven in eight runs and scored five runs.
• RP Trey McDaniel (Senior; Williamsville, Mo.) is in third place in career saves (28). The record belongs to Ryan Netemeyer (2015-18) with 37. McDaniel was the winning pitcher in SIU's 10-9 win at Louisiana-Monroe.
• The Salukis return four pitchers who made at least two MVC starts in 2021: Noah Farmer (MVC: 7/5 1-2, 2.18), Ben Chapman (MVC: 7/7 3-4, 4.02), Mike Hansell (MVC: 6/6 0-2, 9.19) and Tanner Lewis (MVC: 7/2 2-1, 3.86).
• Chapman was SIU's most effective SP in the season-opening series at ULM pitching 6 innings and allowing 0 runs on two hits.
• SIU was picked to finish in a third-place tie with Illinois St. in the Missouri Valley Conference pre-season coaches poll.
• OF JT Weber (2021 All-MVC first team) and 3B Cody Cleveland (2021 All-MVC 2nd team) were chosen for the MVC's 2022 All-Conference pre-season first-team.
