Carbondale, Il. - SIU (13-3) used 11 innings of one run starting pitching, six home runs and error-free defense en route to a home doubleheader sweep of Western Michigan (2-11) Sunday. The Salukis won the seven inning first game, 7-0. They won the second game 12-2 in a game called in the bottom of the eighth due to the 10-run rule. Saluki pitchers struck out 21 batters in the doubleheader-15 in the second game-and only allowed the Broncos eight hits. SIU, a winner of six of its last seven games, plays its next game Tuesday at Tennessee-Martin at 5pm.
GAME ONE: SIU 7 Western Michigan 0 (7)
Saluki WP Noah Farmer (2-0) scattered five hits over six shutout innings enroute to the victory. Farmer, who walked one and struck out four, stranded seven Bronco base runners. He allowed just one runner past second base. Only four of the 18 outs registered by the sinker-baller were hit in the air.
Farmer, who threw 86 pitches, gave way to Jordan Gould in the seventh innings. Gould registered two strikeouts and retired the Broncos in order.
The Salukis broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Grey Epps led off the inning with his first home run of the season. Nick Hagedorn, Ryan Rodriguez and Evan Martin followed with consecutive singles. Martin's single plated Hagedorn giving SIU a 2-0 lead after four innings.
Hagedorn's fourth consecutive hit in the series, a two-run home run in the fifth inning, gave SIU a 4-0 lead.
Southern batted around in the sixth inning. Kaeber Rog and JT Weber hit back-to-back home runs leading off the inning. It was Rog's fourth home run of the season and Weber's seventh. Later in the inning Hagedorn delivered his fifth consecutive hit, an RBI double scoring pinch runner Sam Creed. Creed ran for DH Zack Jensen, who doubled.
The game marked the second time this month that SIU four home runs in a game.
While SIU scored all seven of its runs in its final three at-bats, Farmer and Gould protected the Salukis' second combined shutout of the season (the first was the combined no-hitter vs. Austin Peay on Feb. 22) by allowing the Broncos just one baserunner in the final three innings of the game.
GAME TWO: SIU 12 WESTERN MICHIGAN 2 (8)
SIU scored in every inning except the fifth inning en route to the series win.
CF JT Weber's seventh home run of the season gave SIU a 1-0 first inning lead.

SIU RF Nathan Bandy made it 6-1 SIU in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.
An error by Bronco 1B Cade Sullivan on LF Pier-Olivier Boucher's ground ball produced SIU's seventh run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and a 7-1 lead.
