Salukis host Cougars for three-game series

The Southern Illinois University baseball team returns home Friday to host the SIUE Cougars for a three-game series. The Salukis, who have won four of their last five after Tuesday's win at SEMO, were originally slated to take on both the Siena Saints and the Cougars this weekend but Siena was forced to cancel its trip to Carbondale. SIU and SIUE played once already this season, as the Salukis defeated their sister school, 18-13 on March 8, 2022. The two teams will play a single game on Friday, April 15 at 5 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Notes

SIU was scheduled to play Siena twice and SIUE once this weekend. After Siena cancelled, SIU and SIUE agreed to play three games against each other over two days.
SIU, which finished first or second in every key MVC offensive stat category in 2021, is 2^nd in the MVC in BA, #1 in HRs, #1 in R, #1 in RBIs, #1 in hits, and #2 in Slug % in 2022. The Salukis also lead the MVC in walks and are tied for the 3^rd fewest strikeouts in the MVC.
Through 4/13/22 SS Kaeber Rog is tied for 1st in the nation in hits, 61. CF JT Weber is tied for 8^th with 56.
Weber, who is tied for 9^th in the nation in HRs, has not homered in 5 consecutive games. It is his longest homerless stretch of the season.
