
Southern to host Bradley in MVC home opener

2021-22 MVC Regular Season Championship and WNIT banners to be dropped pregame
Southern beat Evansville and Indiana State last week, coming from behind in both games as SIUÂ faced double-digit deficits in each of the third quarters before big fourth quarters to grab the victories.Â
The Salukis take on the 3-10 Bradley Braves at 6 p.m. Thursday for a special night in Banterra.Â
Prior to the tip, banners for SIU's 2021-22 MVC Regular Season Championship and WNIT appearance from last season will be dropped from the rafters.Â
Kelly Bond-White will also be awarded a game ball from her first career win when the Salukis took down Lehigh in the Christmas City Classic.Â

All-Time vs. Bradley
• Thursday will be the 45th meeting between Southern Illinois and Bradley.
• The Braves lead the all-time series 25-19.
• SIU won the last matchup 74-46 on Feb. 18, 2022. The Salukis have won back-to-back against Bradley.
• Southern won the first matchup 63-62 on Jan. 5, 2011 in Peoria.
Last time out
• Southern took down Indiana State 60-58 on Saturday to start 2-0 in the MVC for the third-straight season.
• Laniah Randle had a game-sealing block on the final possession to give the Salukis the win.
• Shemera Williams scored a game-high 18 points, including a 3-pointer in the final minute to give the Salukis the final lead of the game.
•Southern trailed by 16 with 2:13 left in the third before holding the Sycamores to just six points in the final quarter.
• Ashley Jones (10 points, 4 rebounds), Promise Taylor (8 points, 5 rebounds), Tamara Nard (4 points, 6 rebounds) and Jaidynn Mason (7 points) helped the Salukis in the scoring column.
Scouting Bradley
• The Braves are 3-10 on the year and 0-2 in the MVC.
• Caroline Waite leads BU with 12.9 points per game. Alex Rouse is right behind her at 12.2 ppg. Isis Fitch leads in rebounding at 6.8 rpg and Ruba Abo Hashesh leads the Braves in assists at 3.7 apg.
• Southern and Bradley had no common opponents during non-conference play.
• Bradley fell to Northern Iowa and Drake at home to start MVC play.
Dropping Banners
• The Salukis will drop two banners before Thursday's game against the Braves.
• Southern will unveil it's 2021-22 Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season championship and also a banner for it's WNIT appearance last season.
MVC Openers
• After its win on Thursday against Evansville, Southern Illinois has won its last 10 MVC openers, the longest streak in the Valley.
• The Salukis last loss in an MVC opener was Jan. 3, 2013 to former valley-member Creighton.
