Southern looking start 4-0 in MVC

The Salukis will put their three-game winning streak on the line at 2 p.m. against the Redbirds, who come into the matchup at 8-5 on the year and 2-1 in the MVC.Â
SIU dropped its newest banners in Banterra before Thursday's win over Bradley as banners for the 2021-22 MVC Regular Season Championship and WNIT appearance were unveiled before the game.

All-Time vs. Illinois State
• Southern is 16-28 all-time against Illinois State as Saturday marks the 45th all-time meeting.
• The Redbirds won the last matchup 50-42 on March 12, 2022 during the MVC Tournament. Southern is 3-7 in its last 10 against Illinois State.
• The Salukis last win in the series came Feb. 20, 20022 in a 65-49 win in Normal.
• Illinois State's last win in Carbondale was Feb. 5, 2021 in a 57-50 win for ISU.

• Southern took down Bradley 83-65 on Thursday to start 2-0 in the MVC for the second-straight season.
• Laniah Randle followed up her game-sealing block against Indiana State with a huge 25-point, 11-rebound performance for her second career double-double.
• Ashley Jones (20 points), Shemera Williams (13 points) and Promise Taylor (11 points) also had big games for the Salukis on the offensive end.
• Southern shot 54.8% from the field and hit four 3-pointers. They were 11-of-18 from the charity stripe.
• The Salukis had their best first quarter of the season as they scored 20 points and held Bradley to just eight in the opening frame.

Scouting Illinois State
• Illinois State is 8-5 on the year and 2-1 in the MVC with wins over Drake and Missouri State. The Redbirds lone loss in conference play was a 74-64 defeat against Northern iowa.
• Paige Robinson leads ISU with 19.6 points per game. DeAnna Wilson leads in rebounding at 7.2 rpg and Maya Wong leads the Redbirds in assists at 3.6 apg.
• Saint Louis University is the only common opponent for Southern and ISU during non-conference play as the Redbirds fell to the Billikens 75-65.
• Illinois State had a strong non-con schedule with Dayton (74-70 W OT), Wisonsin (62-57 W), Louisiana Tech (70-53 W), UNLV (73-66 L), Purdue (61-54 L), and Green Bay (63-49 L).
