
Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. - On Sunday, the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-7-4) was blanked by Illinois State, 1-0, on the road.
Goalkeeper Chantelle Symes posted another strong effort in-goal for the Salukis despite the result. Symes put up seven saves in the match, the second highest total the Sydney, Australia, native has had in a game this season.
Southern Illinois had two shots in each of the two halves on Sunday, with three of them being shots-on-goal.
McKensey Bunch, Emma Spotak, and Dana Cruz all had a shot-on-goal in the loss.
Illinois State scored the game-winner in the 28th minute through Julia Liguore, who headed the ball into the back-of-the-net for the match's lone goal.
SIU, now 1-7-4 overall and 0-4-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will play at home for its next three games, starting on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Belmont. The Salukis will then host Indiana State next Sunday at 1 p.m., before playing their final home game on Thursday, Oct. 12, vs. Valparaiso at 6 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
