
Women's Soccer Falls at Murray State on Sunday

MURRAY, Ky. - Dana Cruz scored her second goal of the season on Sunday as the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-10-5) lost at Murray State, 2-1.
Both teams posted six shots each in the first half, with SIU having three shots-on-goal. Cruz had two of the three, with Kylie McDermott tallied one.
Goalkeeper Ary Lougher posted two saves in the opening 45 minutes.
In the 50th minute, Cruz had a chance on a breakaway but was taken down by Murray State's Kate Stordy, who received a straight red card.
Despite the red, Murray State scored the opener in the 62nd minute through Mary Hardy, which gave the Racers a 1-0 lead.
Southern Illinois answered back 11 minutes later, as Cruz found the back-of-the-net in the 73rd minute to tie the match at 1-1.
In the same minute, the Racers scored a penalty kick via Morgan Bodker to retake the lead at 2-1. This would end up being the final score.
The Salukis out-shot Murray State, 13-10, and both teams posted five shots-on-goal each in the match. Lougher made three saves for SIU.
Southern, now 1-10-5 overall and 0-7-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will travel to Springfield, Mo., on Thursday at 7 p.m. to take on Missouri State in its final match of the season.
