Salukis Announce Signing of Phuthanate Kangwol

CARBONDALE, IL– SIU Director of Golf Justin Fetcho announced the signing of Phuthanate Kangwolto the Saluki Men's Golf program.
"We are incredibly excited to add Nam to the Saluki family," said Fetcho. "He fits all the characteristics you look for in a student-athlete. He loves to compete, he loves to work hard and he just absolutely loves golf."
Kangwol joins the Salukis from Thailand and will be a freshman in the class of 2024. He is a three time winner on the TGA-Singha Junior Tour this past year, while also being a member of the Thailand National team in 2021-22.
"He has improved his WAGR by over 600 spots just this year alone and we believe that his best golf is still in front of him. We look for Nam to make an immediate impact on our program."
Kangwol currently ranks 1,375 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. In the last 104 weeks, he has posted 1 win through 30 events with 17 top 10 finishes. He has posted a low 54 hole score of 202 (-14). He Finished top 10 at the FCG Callaway Junior World Championship in 2022. He had a strong 2023 scoring average of 72.12.
