
News | Tornatta and Hartfield Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Second-Team

Carbondale, Ill. - Seniors Tatum Tornatta and Imani Hartfield were selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second-Team as announced by the league on Monday, November 27. Tornatta and Hartfield have been instrumental in the Salukis' success throughout their four-year careers as each has seen action in over 100 matches as the two wrap up their senior seasons.
Tornatta was selected to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention Team in 2021 as this is now her second time being awarded as a Valley Scholar-Athlete and Hartfield's first selection. Both Tornatta and Hartfield are Biological Sciences majors with GPAs over 3.70 as the pair are each set to graduate in May of 2024.Â
With 308 kills on the year, Tornatta has averaged 2.66 per set during her senior season while notching a career-best .283 hitting percentage. Over her four-year career at Southern, Tornatta has totaled 1160 kills, ranking her 10th all time at SIU. Tornatta has totaled 10-plus kills in 16 of SIU's 31 matches this season including a season-high 17 on two separate occasions.Â
Imani Hartfield has started in all 31 matches in 2023 for the Salukis while leading them in both total blocks (101) and hitting percentage (.352). Over her four-year career at SIU, Hartfield holds a hitting percentage of .358 which is tied for the program's best mark for a career. Hartfield put down a season-best 13 kills against Belmont (10/7) while also notching at least one block assist in all but one match this season.Â
