STILLWATER, Okla. - Southern Illinois University (5-5) concluded its non-conference schedule with a 76-58 loss on Sunday at Oklahoma State.
The Salukis got off to a hot start, leading 10-3 just over four minutes into the game. Laniah Randle and Jaidynn Mason combined for all 10 of those points during the run.
At the end of the opening quarter, both teams were knotted at 13-13. SIU shot 42.86% from the field in the first, but also went 0-for-3 from deep.
The game stayed tight in the second quarter, with Randle sinking two free throws with one second remaining to tie the game at 30-30 at the end of the first half. The junior forward scored all six of the final six points Southern Illinois scored in the half.
As a team, SIU posted a field-goal percentage of 37.5% through 20 minutes, while OSU shot 37.9%.
Oklahoma State had its best offensive quarter of the game in the third, out-scoring Southern, 25-14. The Cowgirls shot 57.14% from the field to take a nine-point lead into the fourth.
The Cowgirls didn't slow down in the final 10 minutes, pacing SIU, 21-14, to win by a final score of 76-58.
Randle led the Salukis with 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting in the loss.
The Salukis, now 5-5 overall, will next play their first Missouri Valley Conference game of the season on Dec. 30 at home against Drake at 1 p.m.
