Salukis win 800 Freestyle Relay at Day 1 of MAC Championships

CARBONDALE, ILL. - The Southern Illinois men's swim and dive team opened up day 1 of competition at the MAC Championships in Oxford, Ohio. The opening day of competition consisted of the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.Â
The team of Selim Hassan, Alex Cimera, Adam Cernek, and Will Chavez brought home the Gold for the Salukis in the 800 freestyle relay. They swam a time of 6:29.51.
In the 200 medley relay the Salukis finished in first place, but were disqualified after a controversial "early start" violation. There was a lengthy video review and the officials determined  that one of the Saluki swimmers did start a tad bit early.Â
The Salukis will be back in action for Day 2 of the MAC Championships tomorrow morning at 9:30.Â
