
Salukis Sweep Ohio in Saturday Doubleheader

Game One - SIU 11, OHIO 9
The Salukis ended the pitchers' duel with a huge six-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Cole Christman's two-run home run to get the scoring started, his second of the season. With two outs in the inning, the Salukis scored four more runs on a walk and five straight hits.
Ohio came roaring back in the sixth and seventh, plating four runs in both innings and taking an 8-6 lead on a two-run double from Will Sturek.
Steven Loden took the lead right back with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh. He gave the Salukis a 9-8 lead heading into the final two innings He finished with three hits and four RBIs on the day.
A hit by pitch with the bases loaded tied the game back up in the top of the eighth, but Pier-Olivier Boucher and pinch-hitting Noah Cook both tallied RBI double in the bottom of the inning.
Jordan Bloemer got the final three outs and the Salukis survived the 11-9 slugfest.
SIU starting pitcher Ben Chapman was cruising through five on Saturday, before being pulled after a rocky sixth. He went five innings, allowing four earned runs and seven hits. He struck out seven as walked one facing 21 batters.
Bloemer tallied his first win of the season after pitching the final 1.1 innings.
Jacob Tate took the loss for Ohio.
Game Two - SIU 11, OHIO 3
The Salukis were sharp on both sides of the scorecard in game two.
Pier-Olivier Boucher got things started quickly with a home run to center in the bottom of the first, putting the Dawgs up by one.
After playing small-ball to add three more in the bottom of the second, Boucher added his second extra-base hit in as many innings and the Salukis led by five after two. The Salukis added another in the bottom of the third.
Steven Loden hit his fifth home run of the season to put SIU up by eight after five. Jack Rigoni added a solo home run in the eighth.
Loden and Kaeber Rog both had three-hit performances in game two.
Easton Dermody put on the best performance from an SIU starter this season. He went seven innings, allowing no runs and just five hits. He struck out three and faced 26 batters. Dermody secured his first win of the season in his third start.
Zach Weber took the loss for the Bobcats after allowing eight runs in 3.2 innings.
UP NEXT
Having already won the series, Southern Illinois will look to sweep Ohio on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
