CARBONDALE, Ill. - In its final two meets ahead of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, the Southern Illinois University track and field team posted several strong results at the Penn Relays and Clark Wood Open.Â
"A strong end to the regular season in both venues this weekend," said Richard Jones, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.
At the Penn Relays, Southern Illinois' men's 4x100, men's 4x400, women's 4x400, and Christian Donatelli (in the men's 100m dash) all qualified to compete in the finals on Saturday.
Donatelli competed first on Saturday and finished eighth in the finals, posting a time of 10.80. The sprinter was then a member of SIU's third-place men's 4x100 relay team, which also featured Lamark Threadgill, Xavier Preston, and Jeremiah Hamilton. The group ran a time of 40.52 in the event.
Southern Illinois' women's 4x400 college relay team of Miracle Berry, Shavell Riley, Vashti Grey, and Iaunia Pointer finished first in the finals of the event with a time of 3:38.48. This is also the fourth-fastest time in SIU program history in the women's 4x400.
The men's 4x400 college relay team, featuring Preston, Hamilton, Shane Ashton, and Josh Delgado, also earned a first-place finish on Saturday, tallying a time of 3:09.17.Â
"Penn Relays had better weather on day two, and the results showed on the sprints side," Jones said. "This is the fastest both relays ran in a long time and it sets us up nicely for conference."

In Louisville, the Salukis swept the 3000m runs at the Clark Wood Open. On the men's side, Uriah Guthrie topped the competition with a time of 8:35.81.

Brianna Nieset got the Salukis off to a strong start in Louisville, running a 2:12.09 in the women's 800m run. Nieset's time ranks 10th in program history in the event.
