Salukis Claims Weekend Series Over Belmont Friday Night

Ryan Rodriguez led the SIU offense with three hits including two doubles, and Cole Christman racked up two RBIs.
Rodriguez put SIU on the board in the bottom of the first with a double down the right field line. It is the fifth straight game in which SIU has scored in the first inning.
Belmont tied the game in the top of the third, but Christman put the Dawgs back on top with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. His eight home runs on the season are tied for sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference.
SIU got some breathing room after an RBI double to left center from Mathieu Vallee. They then added another on a fielder's choice and one more on a throwing error. Now up 5-1, Ryan Rodriguez made Belmont pay with an RBI double to left center, his second double of the game.
Jordan Bloemer put together a solid outing on the mound, going 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run, four hits, two walks, and striking out three. Easton Dermody notched his first save of the season after 2.2 innings allowing zero runs, two hits, two walks, and striking out four facing 12 batters.
Mason Landers went 2-for-4 for Belmont, and Drew Lowry had a hit and an RBI.

The Salukis will look for the series sweep Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
