Salukis Win On Warwick Walk-Off As Lis Breaks More Records

Carbondale, Ill. -Â The Southern Illinois Salukis won their final home game of the regular season Sunday afternoon with a 12-11 win over the Murray State Racers.Â
Elizabeth Warwick walked it off with a deep fly ball off the center field wall to score Tori Schullian from third following a leadoff double from the senior Schullian. With the Salukis' win, they finish the regular season with a 20-3 record at home while also picking up a series win against Murray to move to 32-15 (13-11 MVC).
The Racers got a pair of runs across in the top half of the first but the Dawgs were able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run by Jackie Lis for her 16th of the season.Â
Southern used a big second inning that began with an RBI-double from Rylie Hamilton to score Aubree DePron from first. Haley Wilkerson kept the rally going as she dropped in a single down the left field line to score Hamilton before Lis drove in two more runs on a single up the middle to give SIU a 6-2 lead after two innings.
The third inning was the only inning where neither side scored but the Racers came back with eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-6 lead after SIU went scoreless again in the bottom half of the inning. Rylie Hamilton notched her second RBI-hit of the day to make it a 7-10 game in the fifth. Hamilton went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs and a double.Â
Murray was able to get the run back in the sixth to extend its lead to 11-7 after a leadoff walk came in to score later in the inning after a pair of singles for the Racers.Â
Jackie Lis hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded for her first collegiate grand slam and Valley-leading 17th home run of the season. After three consecutive singles for Emma Austin, Elizabeth Warwick, and Anna Carder - Lis stepped to the plate and sent a no doubter to straight away center field to tie the game once again.Â
The grand slam gave Lis eight RBIs on the day as she now holds the SIU single-game record for runs batted in. Liz Warwick tied the record earlier this season in the Salukis' 17-1 win at Evansville with seven RBIs. Lis also now holds the SIU single-season total base record as she totals 108, previously held by Colleen Holloway with 104 set in 1992.Â
After Eberle held the Racers scoreless in the seventh, the Salukis started off the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff double by Tori Schullian on a line drive down the right field line. Emma Austin came up next and delivered with a sacrifice bunt that moved Schullian to third and gave Warwick an opportunity to drive in the game-winning run.Â
On what was nearly a home run, Warwick walked the game off on a deep drive to center field that made it over the outfielder's head and bounced off the wall, scoring Schullian with ease.Â
After a 1-0 shutout win for the Salukis on Saturday, the series finale was nearly the total opposite as the Salukis recorded 14 hits to tie a season-high.Â
Up next for the Salukis is a trip to Illinois State for the final series of the regular season. The series will begin on Friday at 4 PM.
