
Salukis have several athletes advance to finals on Day One of MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - At Day One of the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, the Southern Illinois University track and field team had numerous athletes qualify for finals in their events.Â
The day started with the men and women's 10,000m runs, with the Salukis earning points on both sides. Ethan Senti finished third on the podium after posting a time of 30:45.78 in the event. On the women's side, Stephanie Anthonies was eighth with a time of 38:09.13.
In the men's hammer throw finals, Daniel Norris tallied a sixth-place finish with a mark of 57.17m, followed by Levi Graham in 10th with a mark of 53.83m.Â
Southern Illinois also had two top-10 finishers in the men's javelin throw finals, as Jadon Robertson was sixth (49.08m) and Grant Spicer was 10th (45.72m).Â
In terms of prelims, Iaunia Pointer was first in the women's 200m dash after running a time of 23.44. Christian Donatelli (third, 21.03) and Jeremiah Hamilton (eighth, 21.19) both qualified for the men's 200m dash finals as well.
The Salukis had three athletes qualify for the finals in the 1500m run, with Claire Ayers (fourth, 4:34.72) and Brianna Nieset (fifth, 4:30.12) both earning top-five finishes in the women's race. Qualifying for the men's 1500m run finals was Weston Jokerst, who posted a time of 3:51.89.
Day Two will begin at 3 p.m. for Southern Illinois with the men's shot put, women's high jump, and men's long jump.
