
Three Salukis finish on podium on Day Two of MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - On day two of the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, the Southern Illinois University track and field team had three athletes finish on the podium and multiple others qualify for finals in Normal, Ill.Â
Jadon Robertson was the first Saluki to earn a spot on the podium on Saturday, doing so in the men's long jump. After posting a mark of 7.18m, Robertson finished in third-place in the event.
Robertson also qualified for the finals of the men's 110m hurdles after putting up a time of 14.18 in the prelims.Â
The Salukis had two athletes earn top-three finishes in the 3000m steeplechase on day two. In the women's race, Rachel Anderson finished second with a time of 10:09.94. On the men's side, Dawson Smith also placed second after running a 8:45.31 in the steeplechase.Â
Cole Targgart earned points for the Salukis in the men's shot put finals, finishing in fourth-place with a mark of 17.66m.Â
Southern Illinois had multiple athletes qualify for finals in the hurdles, with Dahja Price advancing in the women's 100m hurdles (eighth, 14.27) and Shane Ashton moving on in the men's 400m hurdles after finishing first in the prelims with a time of 52.14.Â
After finishing first in the women's 200m dash prelims on Friday, Iaunia Pointer was at it again on Saturday, leading the competition in the women's 100m dash prelims, as she posted a time of 11.61.Â
Christian Donatelli qualified for the finals of the men's 100m dash finals, placing third in the prelims with a time of 10.42.Â
Josh Delgado earned a fourth-place finish in the prelims of the men's 800m prelims after posting a time of 1:51.00, sending him to Sunday's final.Â
In the men's 400m dash prelims, Bryson Wilson was able to advance to the finals after running a 48.57.
The final day of the MVC Championships gets started at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault finals.Â
