Saluki Volleyball Voted Fourth In MVC Preseason Poll

Senior outside hitter Nataly Garcia was named to the 2023 Preseason All-MVC team along with just five other Valley athletes. In 2022, Garcia led the Salukis in kills (449), kills per set (3.84), and points per set (4.30) while being awarded to the 2022 All-MVC First Team. In her two years at Southern, Garcia has totaled 817 kills, 539 digs, and 62 aces with 21 double-doubles.
The Salukis are coming off an 18-13 (11-7 MVC) season in 2022 where they finished fourth in the Missouri Valley and received a first-round bye in the conference tournament.Â
SIU returns 12 players from last years' team including all six starters and libero. Five different Salukis tallied at least 100 kills during the 2022 season as SIU averaged 14.11 kills per set, the program's best mark since 2007.
Southern opens the 2023 season with an exhibition at home this Saturday against St. Louis University at 1pm.Â
