ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Dana Cruz scored her first goal as a Saluki in Southern Illinois University's (1-2-3) 1-1 draw at Lindenwood University on Sunday.
Southern Illinois posted five shots in the first half, with two of them coming from Sam Dodd. McKensey Bunch had the team's lone shot-on-goal in the opening frame.
On the other side of the pitch, goalkeeper Chantelle Symes, who had a career-high nine saves in her last game, got off to another hot start, making four saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Salukis wasted no time getting their offense going in the second half, as Cruz found the back-of-the-net in the 47th minute to give SIU a 1-0 lead.Â
Lindenwood's Maggie Weller, however, had an answer, equalizing in the 58th minute to make the score 1-1. This would end up being the final score of the match.
SIU has posted a 1-1 draw in three of its last four matches, resulting in a record of 1-2-3 on the year.
The Salukis will play their final non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 7, at North Alabama at 7 p.m. The next time Southern Illinois will play at home will be in the Missouri Valley Conference opener on Sunday, Sept. 17, when it hosts UIC at 1 p.m.
