Women's Soccer falls short at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. - In its final non-conference match of the regular season, the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-3-3) fell to North Alabama, 2-1, on Thursday night.
The Lions got the first goal of the game in the first half. In the 15th minute, Briana Eads scored to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage within the opening 15 minutes.
Southern Illinois had two shots-on-goal in the first 45 minutes, but couldn't find an equalizer heading into the halftime break.
In the 65th minute, Sam Dodd made a run into the penalty area and was fouled, drawing a penalty for SIU. McKensey Bunch stepped up and slotted it home to tie the match at 1-1. The goal was Bunch's team-leading third of the season.
North Alabama, with just three minutes remaining, got the go-ahead goal through Alice Bussey, who found the back-of-the-net to win the match for the Lions.
Dana Cruz led the Salukis with two shots (both on target) in the loss. Goalkeeper Chantelle Symes made six saves on the night.
Southern Illinois, who is now 1-3-3, won't play again until Sunday, Sept. 17, when it opens up conference play against UIC at 1 p.m. in Carbondale, Ill.
