
Football ranked No. 23/24, preps for Northern Illinois

The last time the teams met was in 2007, when SIU rallied to beat the Huskies, 34-31, behind QB Nick Hill.
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois entered the Top 25 this week, coming in at No. 23 in the Coaches poll and No. 24 in the Stats Perform FCS poll. The Salukis (1-0) have been nationally ranked for 32 weeks since the 2020 season.
SIU plays at Northern Illinois on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in a game televised on ESPN+. The Huskies (1-0) are coming off a 27-24 win at Boston College.
The last time the teams met was in 2007, when SIU beat the Huskies, 34-31, under the direction of senior quarterback Nick Hill. SIU scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull off a stunning comeback, as Hill completed 21-of-33 passes, including three TDs. He completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Kernes with 1:01 remaining in the game, followed by a 30-yard touchdown strike to Justin Allen with 22 seconds remaining in the contest to complete a stunning, 21-point comeback. Northern Illinois is a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Mid-American Conference.
Tickets for the game are on-sale through the athletic ticket office to sit in the SIU section. Tickets are $41 (located in section West B) and can be picked up at the visiting team Will Call at Gate 1 on the west side of Huskie Stadium. Gates open at 1 p.m. with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m..
Join the SIU Alumni Association for a pregame tailgate from 12-2 p.m. for food, drinks and games prior to the game against the Huskies on Sept. 9. Tickets for the tailgate must be purchased separately from a game ticket and includes a catered lunch and a commemorative lanyard.
