NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (6-5-5) fell to Belmont, 3-0, on Sunday.
In the first half, the Salukis started aggressively, with Marta Forne and Guliana Balistreri both recording early shots on goal. However, Belmont found the back of the net in the 14th minute, taking an early 1-0 lead. Southern Illinois recorded 10 shots and seven shots on goal in the first half but couldn't convert to find an equalizer in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half also got off to a quick start, with the Bruins immediately taking a shot on goal. Fabiana Solano made the save to keep the score at 1-0 until the 53rd minute when the Bruins scored to extend their lead to 2-0. Belmont added another goal in the 67th minute to make it 3-0. The Salukis continued to press, with multiple players, including Riley Maulick and Quinn Sowders, creating chances but unable to connect before time expired.
Solano recorded six saves against the Bruins. She and defender Lucy Horn were the only Salukis to play the full 90 minutes.
"We get ready for next weeks battle" head coach Graeme Orr said.
Southern Illinois will play its final home match of the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. against Drake.
