EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (6-7-5) concluded its regular season with a 2-0 loss to Evansville on Sunday.
The first half started slowly, with neither team able to generate scoring opportunities in the early minutes. The Salukis out-shot the Aces, 5-2, but couldn't convert. In the 39th minute, Evansville capitalized on a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Evansville picked up the pace, scoring in the 59th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. The Salukis recorded three shots in the second half. In the 64th minute, McKinley Stiff had the team's best scoring chance with a shot on goal off a free kick. Despite multiple efforts, Southern Illinois was unable to score before time expired.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano recorded one save and was the only Saluki to play the full 90 minutes.
"The ladies made the conference tournament for only the second time in history. Great achievement," head coach Graeme Orr said.
The Salukis begin their postseason campaign on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee, against Indiana State.
